Timber Frame Homes and Structures
Timber frame homes are large squared timbers that are joined together by mortise and tennon joinery which is pegged into place. This creates a strong frame that is covered by insulated panels and can be finished with a variety of conventional building materials, such as: stone, brick, board and batten or even stucco. The hallmarks of modern timber frame homes are curved knee braces, different species of wood uniquely blended together and imaginative, soaring trusses. Timber frame houses can be delightfully simple or incredibly complex and challenging.
At Laverty Log Homes, we build timber frames the old fashioned way. We do not use million dollar computers to do the cutting for us. Rather, we lay out timbers painstakingly by hand - and using humble chisels and mallets we shape timbers to exact fits. Since we pursue excellence, our joinery is tight and flawless. Our pride as handcrafters is on the line with each precise fit.
Fancy machines do not make homes better - but they do make homes more expensive. That is one reason why we are philosophically opposed to machines that do the work for us. The humblest tools in the hands of a skilled handcrafter creates a timber home with soul. At Laverty Log Homes, it is this passion for working wood with our hands that shows in the care and quality of our timber work - timber work that invites a caress.
