Log / Timber Species
At Laverty Log Homes, we favor Eastern White Pine as the species of choice because of its size, character and amazing stability as it dries. Compared to some species which may see enormous settling, Eastern White Pine’s settling is minimal. Eastern White Pine behaves so favorably because it is mostly made up of the stable heartwood and has very little sapwood. We also will build with Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir and Spruce. We believe the client is better served spending a little more for premium logs. Whatever the species, we will only choose the best building logs available for our buildings. About only five percent of trees in a given forest are suitable (straight enough, big enough and with minimal taper) for log building.
