The price for a log shell (only the log portion of the building), will start at approximately $50 -$60 a square foot in Canadian currency, depending on the design complexity and additional features such as: log railings, and log stairs, lofts, log trusses, covered porches, log tables and log breakfast bars. Of course there are many options and only your imagination and bank account will limit you. Depending on your requirements, a completed log home may start at $150 per square foot or exceed $200 per square foot (Canadian currency).
Timber Frame construction starts at approximately $40 per square foot for the timber portion. Like log construction, the price will vary depending on the quantity of wood in the frame, the species of wood and the complexity of the design. Since a timber frame home is a custom home, its price is also in the $150 - $200 per square foot range. Just like log homes, the price of a timber frame home will only be limited by your bank account and your imagination.
